Acne scar treatment

Acne scarring is often an unfortunate consequence for those suffering from acne and is distressing. Acne scar treatment can be treatment for marks and pigmentation left after recent acne which is not permanent or actual dermal scarring causing indentations. These come in three varieties boxcar scarring Ice pick scarring and rolled scarring, they are a result of tethering of the skin to the lower dermal layer . Whilst challenging acne scars can be treated. Dr Charlson treats acne in his NHS dermatology clinics and understands the psychological impact acne and acne scarring may cause.

Acne Scars and TIXEL

Tixel is a new innovation that uses the regenerative power of heat to remodel skin and stimulated collagen synthesis. Tixel delivers uniform stimulus throughout the treatment area and is, therefore, able to produce similar results to CO2 ablative laser treatment without the significant downtime and pain. Tixel starts at £450 per treatment and at least THREE treatments to scarred areas would be needed.

Acne scarring can be diminished by a combination of:

  • Dermaroller
  • PRP treatment
  • Filler treatments
  • Subcision
  • Tixel

However, it is not possible to completely remove acne scars, improvement in the appearance of scarring would be the objective

Acne can leave deep scars which can be filled with dermal filler usually after subcision. This is a temporary treatment to smooth out the skin but with repeated treatment scars do diminish and skin becomes clearer and smoother.

Acne can also leave pigmentation around the site where spots have been. This is called post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and can usually be improved by treatments that increase the rate of skin cell turnover and specialist serums that inhibit the action of melanocytes in the skin.

At Intoskin we have a variety of treatments to treat both active acne and the scarring. These are not available as NHS treatments. We use Tixel dermarollers, dermal fillers, skin peels and creams to improve the appearance of the skin.

Whilst scarring is difficult to treat improvements can be made with the right approach

Treatments start at £150 per session.   http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/acne/features/acne-scars
